The Women's Events Network, December 6th Vigil
The Women's Events Network is holding our annual vigil this coming Tuesday, December 6 at the Women's Monument in Minto Park in downtown Ottawa. It is the National Day of remembrance and Action on violence Against Women.
The Vigil gets underway at 6 PM till 6:30. Please write to email@example.com for posters in English, French, Spanish, and Mandarin. The Facebook link http://www.facebook.com/events/169835923109993/
Our MCee is Isabelle Miron, a well-known leader in the violence against women community who will guide us through our program which will begin with the Aboriginal drumming of an Honour Song and a Strong Man Song. We have a couple of speakers this year to share their personal experiences with us.
Jen Morse will speak to us about what impact the murder of her mother some years ago has had on her and the impact to communities. Ms. Savage will speak in French regarding her own work in the area of violence against women and what it means to her since she herself has been a victim of violence.
We will once again remember the women from our community who have died as a result of male violence and of course, the women from the école Polytechnique, the victims of the Montreal massacre in 1989.
We again have the participation of the local choral group "Just Voices" who will sing a few songs as participatns go forward and lay their flowers on the monument in tribute to women.
Following our vigil, there is an indoor gathering at First United All Saints Church at 347 Richmond Road for another memorial which is always a beautiful ecumenical gathering.
We look forward to seeing you at this year's Vigil.
