YWCA Canada's Recommendations for the Federal Budget Submission 2026

Annually, YWCA Canada and Member Associations serve over 330,000 women, girls and gender diverse people. We are the largest provider of affordable housing and emergency shelters for women, the largest provider of employment and counselling services to women, and the second largest provider of childcare in Canada. We advance gender-equity through fighting gender-based violence, building and operating shelters and affordable housing, and advocating for workplace equity.    

This is why, in August 2026, YWCA Canada submitted 5 recommendations to the federal government for the budget.

We are calling for investments that strengthen safety, economic security, and wellbeing for women, girls, and gender diverse people across Canada. Our recommendations focus on some of the most pressing issues facing communities today — from housing and gender-based violence to child care, feminist leadership, and workforce participation.
