In August, YWCA Canada made a written submission to the House of Commons Standing Committee on Finance for the budget 2025 to reflect the reality of women, girls, gender diverse individuals and their families across Canada. For 150 years, YWCA Canada have been at the forefront of a movement: to fight gender-based violence, build affordable housing and advocate for workplace equity. We work to advance gender equity by responding to urgent needs in communities, through national advocacy and grassroots initiatives. Between 2019 and 2023, YWCAs across Canada reached over 720,000 women, girls and gender diverse individuals. Over 135,000 were under 30 years old.
This is why we submitted 5 main recommendations:
- End anti-Indigenous racism and violence against Indigenous women, girls and Two-Spirit people
- End the gendered housing crisis
- End gender-based violence
- Advance economic equity
- Invest in carers to strengthen Canada’s economy
