Women are more economically and socially empowered than ever before.

 

$150 billion is contributed to the Canadian economy by women-led businesses and they employ over 1.5 million people. Advancing women’s equity in Canada could add $150 billion to the GDP by 2026. Source

$4.3 billion was donated to charities by women in 2021.  Those donations are projected to reach $5.9 billion by 2030. Source

$632 billion was reported by women in Canada as their collected total net income for the 2020 tax year. Source

18% of all Canadian businesses are women-owned and there are more women in the workforce than ever before. Source

3.5 million people are employed by the charitable sector in Canada and approximately 2.7 million are women. Source

 

But we still have a ways to go to reach economic equity.

 

217 years is needed for disparities in the pay and employment opportunities of men and women to end. Source

30% of charities are experiencing a significant drop in revenue, while 40 % say demand for their services has increasedSource 

1 in 4 women-led single-parent households are living in poverty and in unaffordable, temporary, or inadequate housing. Source

1.9 million women, age 18 and up, live on a low income in Canada. Source 

9.6% is the unemployment rate experienced by racialized women, the highest in Canada. Globally, all women are more likely to be unemployed than men. Source
