YWCA Canada will be hosting 2 sessions at the upcoming 64th United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW). During the sessions, YWCA Canada will be sharing its preliminary research findings, lessons from our advocacy campaign work as well as policy recommendations. Sessions will be taking place near the United Nations Headquarters in New York during UNCSW from March 9th to 22nd.

On March 9th, YWCA Canada will be unpacking the gender wage gap in Canada through a racial justice lens. The session will focus on the socio-economic circumstances and experiences of Black, Indigenous and racialized women in Canada. We will share preliminary findings from our Born to Be Bold research project examining systemic and societal challenges to labour market participation as well as potential evidence-based policy and practice solutions.

On March 12th, YWCA Canada will be partnering with our colleagues at World YWCA for a landmark session on unlocking young women’s leadership to transform power structures. Through a panel discussion featuring young women and non-binary leaders from the YWCA movement, we will use YWCA Canada as a case study for how we can transform power structures to advance gender equality. World YWCA will share their feminist research methodology to engage the next generation of leaders in the Sustainable Development Goals, including achieving gender equality.
