YWCA Canada Stands in Solidarity with the People of Iran

YWCA Canada stands in unwavering solidarity with the people of Iran, joining global calls to stop the ongoing assault on human rights. 

Credible reports confirm that in recent weeks, thousands of protesters have been killed, with countless others injured, arbitrarily detained, tortured, or forcibly disappeared.
As Iran’s Woman, Life, Freedom movement has reminded us, women, youth, and minority communities are particularly vulnerable during violent crackdowns. 

We stand alongside the people of Iran, demanding an immediate end to the mass killings and violent repression, restoration of the global internet, and accountability under international law.  

A growing culture of impunity is enabling state actors in Iran and in other countries around the world to commit grave violations of international law. This crisis underscores the urgent need to strengthen institutions designed to uphold human rights and accountability. As World YWCA CEO/General Secretary Casey Harden recently wrote, “in a world governed by force, international law remains one of the few mechanisms to limit power.”
