YWCA Canada welcomes Uber’s Support for Women, Two-Spirit and Gender Diverse People During COVID-19

Published on 23/04/2020 by YWCA Canada

YWCA Canada is grateful for Uber Canada’s donation to our COVID-19 Emergency Response.

Through their support, YWCAs across the country will be able to provide transportation support for people experiencing gender-based violence, deliver groceries and necessary supplies to vulnerable community members and keep workers safe as they operate essential services like shelters.

Maya Roy, CEO of YWCA Canada highlighted, “The rise of domestic violence during this crisis is not okay. Through this donation, we’ll be able to provide critical transportation support so women and gender diverse people can leave dangerous situations quickly. Our local YWCAs have been stepping up for their communities but they need urgent support. Uber’s in-kind donation comes at a critical time and will allow our clients and workers to move from point A to point B safely. This will help to stop the spread of COVID-19 and keep everyone safe.”

YWCA Canada is a leading voice for women, girls, Two-Spirit and gender diverse people. For 150 years, we’ve been at the forefront of a movement: to fight gender-based violence, build affordable housing and advocate for workplace equity. We work to advance gender equity by responding to urgent needs in communities, through national advocacy and grassroots initiatives. Local YWCAs invest over $258 million annually to support over 330,000 individuals across the nation. Today, we engage young leaders, diverse communities, and corporate partners to achieve our vision of a safe and equitable Canada for all.
