YWCA community mourns the loss of Iran plane crash victims

January 9th, 2020

Yesterday, it was reported that Ukraine International Airlines flight PS 752 crashed shortly after takeoff from Tehran, Iran. On impact, all 167 passengers and 9 crew members died. We’ve learned that many passengers were intending on continuing their journey to Canada after landing in Kyiv, Ukraine.

We’ve recently come to know that one of our YWCA Toronto colleagues, Sahar Haghjoo and her daughter Elsa Jadidi, died in the plane crash.  They were on their way back to Canada after visiting family during the holiday season.

YWCA Canada would like to extend our deepest condolences to everyone impacted by Sahar and Elsa’s deaths, our YWCA Toronto colleagues, and all the loved ones, friends and families impacted by this heartbreaking tragedy. We also extend our sincerest sympathies to the broader Iranian Canadian community during this unimaginably difficult and sad time.

Yours Sincerely,

Maya Roy BSW, MSc.

Chief Executive Officer
