Building Women-Led Housing
1 in 4 women-led single-parent households are living in poverty and in unaffordable, temporary, or inadequate housing. The gendered housing crisis has become so severe across Canada that the Federal Housing Advocate deemed it one of the top human rights issues in 2023.
YWCA Canada is currently Canada’s largest provider of gender-based violence shelters and continues to work tirelessly to ensure every woman, girl, and gender diverse person has a place to call home.
Some ways YWCA Canada is building women-led housing are:
- Crisis and Temporary Shelters
- Affordable Housing
- National Emergency Survivor Support Fund
- National Housing Repair Fund
- National Community of Practice for Housing Providers
