Dollars & Sense

The Dollars & Sense Project is a collaborative initiative led by YWCA Canada, in partnership with 11 regional YWCAs across the country, to improve financial literacy for low-income women and gender diverse people. The project will weave financial literacy and empowerment activities into multiple existing programs offered by MAs to address participants’ needs and improve their economic circumstances and financial knowledge.

By weaving financial literacy and empowerment activities into multiple existing programs, we aim to address participants’ unique needs and support their economic uplift. This project is not just about imparting knowledge; it’s about fostering financial confidence and resilience within our community.

11 YWCAs are offering this program in their communities:

The Dollars and Sense project will deliver a suite of financial empowerment services, including:

  • Financial education and one-on-one coaching or counselling
  • Tax filingassistanceand access to federal/provincial benefits
  • Improved access to safe financial products
  • Savings and asset-building tools
  • Consumer protection education to prevent fraud and financial abuse

These services will be embedded within YWCAs broader programming to meet participants where they are and support long-term economic stability.

Dollars & Sense is a four-year project funded in part by Prosper Canada and in part by Government of Canada.
