Last week, our CEO Maya Roy met with the Minister of Families, Children and Social Development, the Honourable Ahmed Hussen.
As one of Canada’s largest providers of housing and shelter initiatives, child care services and employment programs, YWCA Canada has developed 150 years of service delivery expertise. We are always interested in sharing our insights with our government and private sector partners to inform policy, programs and practices through a gender-based lens.
At the meeting, our CEO Maya Roy and Minister Hussen discussed our work on:
- Advancing a gender-lens in the National Housing Strategy
- Expanding the supply of affordable housing and delivery of homelessness programs for women
- Increasing uptake of income security programs such as the Canada Learning Bond
We also discussed other key priorities highlighted in the Minister’s mandate letter such as the National Poverty Reduction Strategy, the creation of a national secretariat to lay the groundwork for a pan-Canadian child care system as well as support for early childhood educators.
