YWCA Canada and YWCA Halifax extends condolences to the Nova Scotian community

April 20th 2020

Yesterday, together with you, we learned of the shocking incidents in beautiful Nova Scotia. Also like you, we are trying to make sense of the deaths and the unimaginable suffering of so many.

YWCA Canada and YWCA Halifax foremost extend our deepest condolences to all the families and communities affected by this shooting.

We also express our sincerest sympathies to the broader Nova Scotian community during this devastating time. We too are heartbroken.

As the situation evolves and we come to know more in the days and weeks to come, we want to let you know we are here with you.

Like Halifax journalist Tim Bousquet has said, “It will never make sense.”  As details emerge about the victims, the events, and the perpetrator, please know that the YWCA stands in solidarity with our community, especially its women, girls, Two-Spirit and gender diverse people.

Yours Sincerely,

Maya Roy, CEO of YWCA Canada & Miia Suokonautio, Executive Director of YWCA Halifax
